BTEC Certificate in Voluntary Sector Management

Whilst the private and public sectors have invested in management education our sector has not. Add to this the increasing pressure for infrastructure organisations (and the wider voluntary and community sector) to take on responsibility for delivering public services provision then the need for strong management skills becomes ever more apparent.

Learning Together Cheshire & Warrington, in collaboration with "Charity Training.com" recently developed an opportunity for staff in Voluntary Sector Organisations to study for a management qualification (accredited by Edexcel) and the first 12 students have successfully completed the BTEC Certificate in Voluntary Sector Management course and have received their qualification.

This management qualification is the only one of its kind and has been developed to meet the needs of charity professionals throughout the UK. The content is up to date (recognising sector drivers and influences eg The Charities Bill and National Occupational Standards) and meets the personal development needs of individuals as well as providing tools that support organisational capacity development and efficiency improvements. Details of units covered in the course are available from this link.

A second full course started in the Autumn of 2007 following a series of "taster sessions" at which potential course participants could find out whether the full course was right for them. Fourteen students are now enrolled and are due to finish in 2008.

Further taster sessions will be arranged in the future to identify potential future participants.

If you want further information about further possible taster courses please e-mail admin@learning-together.co.uk or telephone 01244 320528.

Training Opportunities
“Domestic Abuse is the emotional, physical, sexual or psychological abuse of persons by their partners, family member or someone with whom there has been a relationship. This includes any repeated incidence of personal, physical, sexual, emotional psychological, economic abuse, threatening behaviour, intimidation, physical attack, murder, manslaughter and damage to property. It involves any treatment of one person by another that contributes to an erosion of self or degradation. This essentially involves the misuse of power and the exercise of control by one person, usually a man, over another, usually a woman.” (CDAP 1998)

Level 1 Course:
“Responding to Domestic Abuse”

A basic awareness course. (1 Day)
• To develop a better understanding of Domestic Abuse in all agencies
• identify appropriate responses to safeguard, support and empower survivors of Domestic Abuse
• understand the role of different agencies in Domestic Abuse, including responding to perpetrators, and how we can work better together The Level 1 training (or equivalent) must be completed before applying for any Level 2 course

Level 2 Course (2 Days).
“Working with Families experiencing Domestic Abuse”

This is the natural follow on from level 1 and is for those working directly with children and families. The course will cover Domestic Abuse practice issues for supporting and safeguarding children and families.

Additional Courses:

These courses vary each year and provide an occasional opportunity to augment learning/expertise in a specific area. In 2008/9 these courses will be commissioned and advertised according to need and funding available.

The Training Programme began in 1998 and has been highly popular and effective as all agencies recognize the huge cost of domestic abuse to individuals and also to front line services.

Cheshire County Council, on behalf of Cheshire Domestic Abuse Partnership, administers this programme of training.
